Victorian Floral Foot Bath / Basin — Shell-Scroll End, Pink Ground
A glimpse of the Victorian washstand: deep oval basin, rosy transfer flowers, and a flourish of shell-scroll at one end. Set it on a hamper or vanity and it reads like a bouquet—perfect for rolled towels, bath salts, or as a centerpiece planter. This survivor shows honest age and one visible chip at the scroll end (see close-up), priced accordingly.

Large oval Victorian footbath in ceramic with transfer-printed roses and soft pink ground, edged in time-worn gilt. Made for warm soaks beside the fire or washstand, pieces like this survive as beautiful, useful vessels—towels by the tub, orchids on a console, or seasonal centerpieces. Condition is decorative-good with a noted at the ornamental scroll end and expected surface wear; stable and displays well. Underside carries a hand number “76164”; no maker’s mark found.

Brand / Pattern Background

Before indoor plumbing, homes kept portable basins for washing and warming tired feet. Strong, inexpensive ironstone let potteries make large vessels, and transfer printing covered them with fashionable bouquets at speed. Victorian home remedies even recommended a mustard foot bath for chills and colds. That’s why these deep oval bowls survive in numbers today—useful then, decorative now.
